Drum Brake System: Adjustments

Brake Adjuster Screw:

1. Remove tires and wheels.
2. Remove brake drums.
3. Make sure stops on both parking brake levers are against edges of webs on park brake shoes. If parking brake cable is holding stops off edge of shoe webs, loosen parking brake cable adjustment.
4. Measure drum inside diameter using J 21177-A, drum to brake shoe clearance gage, or equivalent.
5. Turning star wheel on adjuster screw, adjust shoe and lining diameter to be 1.27 mm (0.05 inch) less than drum inside diameter at each wheel.
6. Brake drums.
7. Tires and wheels.
8. Apply and release brake pedal 30 to 35 times with a one second pause between each brake application.
9. Inspect For brake drag and proper park brake function.
