Trim Height Measurements

Incorrect trim heights can produce symptoms similar to those produced when there is a problem with the wheel alignment. Trim heights should be checked when diagnosing steering and vibration complaints. Before measuring the dimensions, lift rear bumper of vehicle ("D" and "K" dimension), or front bumper of vehicle ("Z and "J" dimensions), up approximately 38.0 mm (1.5 inches). Let the vehicle settle on its own and repeat twice for a total of three times. Measure "D" and "K" dimensions. Push rear bumper of vehicle down approximately 38.0 mm (1.5 inches) and let the vehicle rise on its own. Repeat twice for a total of three times and measure "D" and "K" dimensions. True height is the average of the high and low measurements.

In order to measure trim height accurately, the following conditions MUST be met:
^ Tires are at the correct pressure shown on the Tire Placard.
^ Fuel tank is full.
^ Coolant is full to capacity.
^ Vehicle has no additional weight or passengers.
^ Front seat is in rearward position.
^ Rear compartment is empty except for the spare tire and jack (and simulated fuel load, if required).
^ Vehicle is on a known level floor.
^ All doors, hood and rear compartment lid are closed.
