Steering Wheel

^ Tools Required:
- J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller
- J 42578 Steering Wheel Puller Legs
- Or Equivalents

REMOVAL
Remove or disconnect the following:
1. Position ignition in the "OFF" position.
2. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
3. Inflator restraint steering wheel module.
4. Scribe an alignment mark on steering wheel hub in line with slash mark on steering shaft.
5. Loosen steering wheel shaft nut, positioning it flush with end of shaft.
6. Assemble Steering Wheel Puller on steering wheel and pull wheel loose from shaft (Chevrolet and Oldsmobile).
7. Assemble the Steering Wheel Puller and the Steering Wheel Puller Legs on steering wheel and pull wheel loose from shaft (Pontiac).
8. Steering wheel shaft nut.
9. Steering wheel off steering shaft.

INSTALLATION
Install or connect the following:
1. Route SIR connector through steering wheel.
2. Align the scribe mark on steering wheel with slash mark on steering shaft and install steering wheel.
3. Steering wheel shaft nut.
^ Tighten steering wheel shaft nut to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).
4. Inflator module.
5. Enable SIR System.
^ Inspect the operation of horn, steering wheel, and steering wheel controls, if equipped.
