Suspension Control ( Automatic - Electronic ): Service Precautions

WARNING: Before removing or installing any-electrical unit or when a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with "LIVE" exposed electrical terminals, disconnect the battery negative cable to help prevent personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or components. Unless instructed otherwise, the ignition switch must be in the "OFF" or "LOCK" position.

CAUTION: When diagnosis or repair requires raising the vehicle on a hoist, it is important that the rear axle remains in the normal trim height position at all times. Therefore, the hoists should support the rear wheels or axle housing. When a frame contact hoist is used, two addition jacks stands should be used to support the rear axle in the normal trim position.

If both the suspension leveling system and the inflator system are inoperative, check first to see if the Electronic Level Control (ELC) fuse is in place in the vehicle fuse block before performing any other diagnostics. This 20 amp fuse is placed loose in the glove box by the assembly plant to prevent ELC system operation during vehicle shipment. This fuse also serves to protect the auto level control air compressor against damage due to excessive overload stall. The fuse is in the fuse block and functional, proceed with system diagnostic.
