Subject:
Potential Damage to Steering Wheels During
Removal Process; New Special Tools Required
Models:
1997 Buick Century, Park Avenue, Regal
1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, Trans Sport
The vehicles listed above include a magnesium cast steering wheel assembly with a steel insert or hub. Removal of these steering wheels using the existing Kent Moore J 36541-A Steering Wheel Puller Legs may cause the steel hub to become loose or separate from the magnesium insert and may leave the hub on the steering shaft.
New service tool legs, (Kent Moore J 42578) have been developed for use when servicing these steering wheels. These new puller legs should have been shipped to Buick dealers during December, 1996 and will ship to Pontiac dealers during January, 1997.
Important:
Do not use Kent-Moore Tool J 36541-A or J 42120 (Legs) to remove steering wheels from these vehicles.
If removal of steering wheels on the above vehicles results in a loose or separated wheel/hub assembly, the steering wheel is to be replaced with a new part from GMSPO.
