Bulletin No.: 67-60-04

Date: January, 1997

Subject:
Engine Noise in Passenger Compartment
(Remove Accelerator Cable Retaining Clip)

Models:
1997 Chevrolet Venture
1997 Oldsmobile Silhouette
1997 Pontiac Trans Sport
with 3.4L Engine (VIN E - RPO LA1)

Condition

Some owners may comment on an engine-type noise heard in the passenger compartment. This noise may sound like light upper engine noise (lifter), lower end engine noise (rod/main bearing) transmission noise or even an exhaust leak type noise.

Cause

The noise may be due to engine compartment vibrations transmitted and amplified by the accelerator cable retaining clip located at the underside of the cowl.

Correction

This corrective action will not resolve all engine type noise concerns. However, it is the first step that should be taken when diagnosing and resolving engine type noise concerns.

Remove and discard accelerator cable retaining clip from stud and cable located at the underside of the cowl (see figure).

The clip is used only as an assembly plant aid and it is not required to ensure normal proper cable operation.

Important:
After removal of clip, ensure accelerator cable does not contact any moving parts and there are no sharp bends in the cable. The cable must be positioned ABOVE the wiper module bracket and air conditioning pipes.
