Condition

Some customers may comment that the power sliding door (PSD) will reverse on closing or the door will appear closed, but the alarm will come on when the transmission is moved out of Park.

Cause

Corrupted detent switch signals may cause the above malfunctions. The PSD system relies on signals generated by the detent switch on the latch and transmitted through the plungers on the door side and pads on the body side to determine that the door is fully latched.

Correction

Important:
For 1997 and 1998 Extended Wheelbase (5th VIN character "X") vehicles, follow Steps 1 through 3.

For 1998 Regular Wheelbase (5th VIN character "U"), and all 1999 and 2000 vehicles up to VINs 1GNDX03E3YD100089, 1GHDX03E9YD100147, and 1GMDX03E4YD100087, follow Steps 1 through 5.

1. Replace the door side plunger and harness, which is supplied in the connector kit.

2. Use the diagram and harness in the kit to upgrade the wire harness in the "B" pillar. This is an advantage to the PSD system electrical circuits in that the 1892 detent (latch ) signal and the 750 ground are doubled through the door to body contacts.

3. Replace the flat contact plate on the "B" pillar which is supplied in the connector kit.

Important:
Both the controller and latch must be replaced. The new latch will not function with the previous versions of the controller.

4. Replace the Power Sliding Side Door Controller. Refer to the Doors subsection of the Service Manual for module replacement (SI Document ID # 508665).

5. Replace the Power Sliding Side Door Latch. Refer to the Doors subsection of the Service Manual for latch replace. (SI Document ID # 508709).

6. Reinitialize the door after repair. Refer to the Doors subsection of the Service Manual for Power Sliding Door (PSD) Re-initialization (SI Document ID # 601816).
