Windows - Auto-Down Feature Inoperative

File In Section: 8 - Chassis/Body Electrical

Bulletin No.: 73-81-38

Date: August, 1997

Subject:
Power Window "Auto-Down" Feature Inoperative
(Replace Switch)

Models:
1997 Chevrolet Venture
1997 Oldsmobile Silhouette
1997 Pontiac Trans Sport

Condition

Some owners may comment that the "auto-down" feature on the power window switch does not operate. Also, in rare instances, additional comments may include: window goes down by itself after window hits the top seal, no "up" cancel of auto-down (chatter noise heard), and auto-down stops too soon.

Cause

Transient voltage from the window system may damage the integrated circuit in the switch that controls the auto-down feature. The circuitry in the switch was changed to correct this condition. The change was made in production on May 15, 1997.

Correction

Replace the driver's side power window switch with new part number (see below). Follow the procedure in Section 10-6 of the Service Manual.
