Wheel Hub: Service and Repair
REAR HUB/BEARINGREMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Remove the tire and the wheel.
Notice: Do not hammer on brake drum as damage to the bearing could result.
3. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
4. Remove the rear wheel hub from the axle.
Important: The bolts which attach the rear wheel hub also support the brake. When removing these bolts, support the brake with wire or other means. Do not let the brake line support the brake assembly.
5. Remove the wheel speed sensor electrical connector from the hub.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the wheel speed sensor electrical connector at the hub.
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
2. Install the rear wheel hub to the rear axle bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 85 Nm (63 lb ft).
3. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
4. Install the tire and the wheel.
5. Lower the vehicle.
