Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
3. Remove the right engine splash shield.
4. Remove the vehicle speed sensor wiring harness connector.





5. Remove the vehicle speed sensor bolt (9).
6. Remove the vehicle speed sensor (10) from the extension case.





7. Remove the O-ring seal (11) from the vehicle speed sensor (10).

IMPORTANT: Handle the vehicle speed sensor (10) carefully.

8. Inspect the vehicle speed sensor (10) and O-ring seal (11) for the following:
^ Damaged connector
^ Cracked housing
^ Signs of rotor damage
^ Cuts or nicks on the O-ring seal (11)

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the O-ring seal (11) to the vehicle speed sensor(10).
2. Install the vehicle speed sensor (10) to the extension case.





3. Install the vehicle speed sensor bolt (9).
^ Tighten the vehicle speed sensor bolt to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Service Precautions in Service Precautions.





4. Install the vehicle speed sensor wiring harness connector.
5. Install the right engine splash shield.
6. Install the right front tire and wheel.
7. Lower the vehicle.
