Section 8A-133 Theft Deterrent System Revised Arm/Disarm Mode Feature Customization Procedure
Models:
1998 Chevrolet Venture
1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette
1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, Trans Sport with Content Theft Deterrent (RPO UA6)
This bulletin is being issued to revise the theft deterrent arm/disarm mode information found in Section 8A-133 of the Service Manual as follows:
Replace the action in Step 2 in the Content Theft Deterrent System Check table on Page 8A-133-2 of the Service Manual with the following:
Setting the correct feature customization mode to enable the content theft deterrent system:
1. Make sure the MALL PGM fuse (Grand Prix) or BCM PRGRM fuse (Trans Sport, Venture and Silhouette) is removed and the ignition switch is in the ACC position (from Step 1).
2. Set the content theft deterrent/shock sensor control to mode 4 as follows: Turn the headlamp switch from OFF to PARK, then back to OFF to advance the mode number. The seat belt indicator lamp in the instrument cluster flashes (and the chime sounds) a number of times equal to the current customization mode number.
3. Set the theft deterrent arm/disarm control to mode 3 as follows:
a. Turn and hold either front door lock cylinder to the unlock position.
Important:
This step requires another vehicle key because the ignition switch must remain in the ACC position while turning the door lock cylinder to the unlock position.
b. While the door lock cylinder is in the unlock position, press and release the alarm button on the keyless entry transmitter to advance the mode number. The seat belt indicator lamp in the instrument cluster flashes (and the chime sounds) a number of times equal to the current customization mode number.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
5. Reinstall the MALL PGM fuse (Grand Prix) or BCM PRGRM fuse (Trans Sport, Venture and Silhouette).
Replace the information in Step 2 under "Changing the Feature Customization Modes" on Page 8A-133-25 (Grand Prix) or Page 8A-133-23 (Trans Sport, Venture and Silhouette) of the Service Manual with the following:
1. To change the theft deterrent arm/disarm mode:
a. Turn and hold either front door lock cylinder to the unlock position.
Important:
This step requires another vehicle key because the ignition switch must remain in the ACC position while turning the door lock cylinder to the unlock position.
b. While the door lock cylinder is in the unlock position, press and release the alarm button on the keyless entry transmitter to advance the mode number. The seat belt indicator lamp in the instrument cluster flashes (and the chime sounds) a number of times equal to the current customization mode number.
