Liftgate Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (Service and Repair) .

Caution: When a lift gate hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

2. Open the liftgate and support.
3. Disconnect the liftgate wiring connectors.
4. Disconnect the rear washer hose.
5. Pull the liftgate wiring grommet, the connectors and the rear washer hose out of the rear header.




6. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to Strut Replacement - Liftgate (Service and Repair) .
7. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges to the body with a grease pencil.
8. Remove the liftgate hinge attachment nuts from the inside rear header, leaving the liftgate hinges attached to the liftgate.
9. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle with an assistant, and place the outside face down on a clean, padded surface.



Installation Procedure





1. Position the liftgate hinges to the marked location points on the body, with an assistant.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.


Important: New hinge to body nuts must be used to ensure a proper seal.


2. Install the liftgate hinge attachment nuts inside the rear header.

Tighten the liftgate hinge nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

3. Verify the alignment of the liftgate; adjust as necessary.
4. Install the liftgate struts. Refer to Strut Replacement - Liftgate (Service and Repair) .
5. Install the liftgate wiring grommet, the connectors and the hose into the rear header.
6. Connect the liftgate wiring connectors.
7. Connect the rear washer hose.
8. Install the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (Service and Repair) .
