Buzz or Rattle Noise from Rear Liftgate While Driving Over Rough Surfaces/Bumps (Install Foam Between Rear Wiper Motor and Liftgate)

with Rear Window Wiper System (RPO C25)

Condition

Some customers may comment on a buzz or rattle noise coming from the rear of the vehicle or liftgate while driving over rough surfaces/bumps.

Cause

The cause may be from a lack of clearance between the rear wiper motor and the liftgate.

Correction

Install foam between the rear wiper motor and the rear liftgate using the steps below:

Verify that the noise is coming from the rear liftgate.

Remove the rear liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement in SI.

Cut a piece of closed cell foam, P/N P46510, to 25 mm (1 in) width by 30 mm (1-1/8 in) length.

Loosen the two rear wiper assembly bolts.

Do Not completely remove the rear wiper assembly bolts.





Slightly pull down on the rear wiper motor to locate the witness mark (1) on the liftgate.





Attach the piece of foam to the witness mark on the liftgate as shown above.

Tighten the rear wiper assembly bolts.

Tighten

Tighten the rear wiper assembly bolts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).

Install the rear liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement in SI.

Verify that the noise is gone.
