DTC Descriptors

DTC B0728
- Transmission Range Indicator Circuit A High

DTC B0733
- Transmission Range Indicator Circuit B High

DTC B0738
- Transmission Range Indicator Circuit C High

DTC B0748
- Transmission Range Indicator Circuit P High

Circuit/System Description

The transmission control module (TCM) communicates the park/neutral switch status to the body control module (BCM) via serial data. The BCM uses this data to control the Electronic PRNDL display on the shifter. The BCM controls the LEDs in the PRNDL display through 4 control circuits.

Conditions for Running the DTC

* The ignition is ON.
* The ignition voltage is greater than 8.5 volts but less than 17 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

* The BCM detects that the commanded state of the driver and the actual state of the control circuit do not match.
* The condition must be present for a minimum of 115 milliseconds.
* DTC B1327 and DTC B1328 are not set.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* The BCM stores the DTC information in memory.
* The BCM disables all PRNDL display outputs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* A current DTC will clear when the fault is no longer present and the ignition switch is cycled.
* The history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles without a fault present.
* A scan tool may be used to clear history and current DTCs.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the transmission range indicator.
2. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the suspect signal circuit and ground. Verify the scan tool TR Sw. A/B/C/P parameter is LOW.

If not LOW, test the suspect signal circuit of the transmission range indicator for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

3. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the transmission range indicator.

Repair Instructions
