Stabilizer Shaft Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Position the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
3. Remove the front tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .




4. Remove the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Front Suspension) .

Important: In the following service procedure, it is not necessary to completely remove the outer tie rod end from the steering rack. Relocate the outer tie rod end to the side and support if necessary.


5. Remove the steering gear assembly. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (EPS) (Service and Repair)Steering Gear Replacement (HPS) (Service and Repair) .
6. Rotate the left and right steering knuckle all the way forward.




7. Remove the stabilizer shaft clamp to cradle bolts.
8. Remove the stabilizer shaft clamps and bushings from the stabilizer bar.

Important: In the following service procedure, it is NOT necessary to remove the catalytic convertor from the vehicle. Just remove it from the exhaust manifold.


9. Remove the catalytic convertor from the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LNJ) .
10. Using a jack stand, raise the front of the catalytic convertor until just touches the floor panel

Important: Take care not to catch the transmission shift cable or left wheel house plastic trim when removing the stabilizer bar.



Important: It may be necessary to rotate the stabilizer shaft 180° while removing it from the vehicle.


11. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the vehicle through the left wheel opening.



Installation Procedure


Important: Take care not to catch the transmission shift cable or left wheel house plastic trim when installing the stabilizer shaft.


1. Install the stabilizer shaft to the vehicle through the left wheel opening.




2. Install the stabilizer shaft clamps and bushings to the stabilizer bar.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice .

3. Install the stabilizer shaft clamp bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).





4. Install the stabilizer shaft links. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Front Suspension)
5. Install the steering gear assembly. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement (EPS) (Service and Repair)Steering Gear Replacement (HPS) (Service and Repair) .
6. Remove the jack stand from the catalytic convertor.
7. Install the catalytic convertor to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LNJ) .
8. Install the front tire and wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair) .
9. Lower the vehicle.
