Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Precautions

NOTE: Idle mixture on fuel injected models is controlled by the ECM and is not adjustable. The following procedures apply only to carbureted models.

MODELS WITH ROCHESTER E2SE CARBURETOR

The E2SE carburetor is used with electronic fuel control systems which control air/fuel mixture during all ranges of engine operation. Because of this system control, special preliminary checks and adjustment procedures are required. Procedures must be followed exactly, in sequence, to insure correct mixture adjustment.

The dwell reading from the Mixture Control (MC) solenoid is used as an adjustment calibration. While it is normal for dwell readings to fluctuate over a 5° range, temporary mixture variations may cause dwell reading to fluctuate as much as 10°-15°. Dwell readings specified for adjustment are the average of the most consistent variation.
