BRAKE PULSATION (SHUDDER, PULSATION Subject: VIBRATION WHEN SERVICE BRAKE IS APPLIED) REPLACING SLIDE PINS WITH NEW PINS
Models
Affected: 1982-88 6000
Some vehicles may experience a shudder or pulsation vibration when the service brake is applied. This is commonly referred to as "Brake Pulsation", and generally results from uneven wear of the brake rotors. Uneven rotor wear could be caused by high lateral slide forces of the brake calipers.
The caliper slide force may be reduced by replacing the current slide pins with new reduced diameter pins.
Whenever the caliper mounting bolts are serviced, the caliper mount bolt holes must be thoroughly cleaned and the area between the mount bolt bushings must be packed with silicone grease, P/N 12345579 or equivalent.
A Heavy Duty - # 18016163 (4 required per vehicle)
A Light Duty - # 18016164 (4 required per vehicle)
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.
When replacing pins, refer to the vehicle Service Manual for the following:
^ Proper Rotor Refinishing
^ Proper Caliper to Knuckle Clearance
^ Proper Lug Nut Torque Sequence
^ Only Replace Pads as Necessary
NOTICE: IF BRAKE PADS ARE REPLACED, ONLY USE THE LATEST GM PADS WHICH WERE SPECIFICALLY DEVELOPED FOR YOUR VEHICLE.
Use applicable Labor Operation Number and Labor Time.
