Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and release parking brake.2. Raise car and remove propeller shaft.
3. Disconnect speedometer cable, vacuum hose at modulator, detent cable at transmission and shift linkage. When removing detent cable, be careful not to bend it.
4. Support transmission with a suitable jack and remove crossmember.
5. Remove converter dust pan, mark flywheel and converter for reassembly and remove flywheel to converter bolts. Make sure converter is free to rotate.
6. Disconnect transmission filler pipe at engine and remove pipe from transmission.
7. Lower transmission and engine to gain access to cooler line fitting nuts and disconnect cooler lines. On some models it may be necessary to loosen the exhaust system.
8. With transmission in lowered position, remove the transmission to engine bolts. On models equipped with V8-301, the lower transmission to engine bolts must be loosened first and tightened last when replacing the transmission.
9. Raise transmission to its normal position, support engine and slide transmission rearward and lower it away from car. When lowering transmission, keep rear of transmission lower than the front so as not to lose the converter.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
