Front Caster and Camber Adjustment
Fig. 1 Caster & camber shim location:
EXC. FIREBIRD
Caster and camber adjustments are made by placing shims between the upper pivot shafts and frame, Fig. 1. Both adjustments can be made at the same time. In order to remove or install shims, raise car to remove weight from front wheel, then loosen control arm shaft-to-frame bolts. Shim pack thickness should not exceed .40 inch. Also, difference between front and rear shim packs should not exceed 3/8 inch maximum.
1. To increase negative caster, add shims to front bolt or remove shims from rear bolt.
2. To decrease negative caster (increase positive caster), remove shims from front bolt or add shims to rear bolt.
3. To increase positive camber, remove shims from both front and rear bolts.
4. To decrease positive camber (increase negative camber), add shims to both front and rear bolts. By adding or subtracting an equal amount of shims from front and rear bolts, camber will be changed without affecting caster.
5. After proper shim pack has been installed, torque pivot shaft mounting bolts to 70 to 75 ft. lbs. on 1983---85 Parisienne, 45 ft. lbs. on 1982---85 Bonneville and Grand Prix, or 80 ft. lbs. on 1986---88 models.
