A/T - Input Carrier to Output Shaft Snap Ring Assembly

Subject: INPUT CARRIER TO OUTPUT SHAFT SNAP RING - 1982-1983 THM 700-R4 TRANSMISSION




When reassembling a THM 700-R4 transmission, do not reuse the input carrier to output shaft snap ring (see illustration).. This snap ring can be overexpanded during removal and, if reused in this condition, it may become dislodged during vehicle operation. If the snap ring should become dislodged, the output shaft could move rearward and damage both the governor driven gear and the speedometer drive gear.. This will cause a condition of no upshifts.

NOTICE: When installing a new snap ring (part number 8642230) be certain not to overexpand it.
