Starting March 25, 1983, (Julian date 084), all THM 700-R4 transmissions were built using a new control valve assembly and spacer plate to correct a harsh manual 2-1 downshift feel and/or delayed downshift condition.

When servicing any 1982 or 1983 THM 700-R4 transmission for a harsh manual 2-1 downshift feel and/or a delayed downshift, the T.V. limit plug, gasket-(spacer plate to case), gasket-(spacer plate to valve body), and spacer plate, must be replaced to correct this condition. (See Figure 1 for installation of the T.V. limit plug.)
