Subject: OIL PAN INSTALLATION - 1.8L OHC 4-CYLINDER ENGINE


Please discard the previous bulletin 83-I-156...
Comments have been received concerning oil leaks at the oil pan gasket on 1.8L OHC engines as well as loose pan bolts.

When it is found that the oil leak at the oil pan is caused by loose pan bolts, remove the bolts and apply Loctite or equivalent to the thread area and reinstall the bolts. The torque specification for the pan bolts is 5 N-m (4 ft.lb.). (The oil pan bolts and bolt holes must be cleaned prior to applying Loctite.)
