Throttle Body Injection Unit Service

4 & 8 CYLINDER ENGINES

DISASSEMBLE
1. Remove fuel meter cover screws and lockwashers holding cover on fuel meter body.
2. Lift off fuel meter cover with fuel pressure regulator.
3. Remove and discard fuel meter cover gaskets.

WARNING: Do not remove screws securing the pressure regulator to fuel meter cover. The regulator incorporates a large spring under heavy tension which, if accidentally released, could cause personal injury. Do not immerse the fuel meter cover in any type of cleaner.

4. Remove fuel pressure regulator dust seal, from fuel meter body, Fig. 167.

5. Remove fuel injector, Fig. 168.
6. Remove fuel inlet and outlet nuts and gaskets from fuel meter body.

7. Remove screws and lockwashers, then remove fuel meter body from throttle body assembly, Fig. 173.

8. Remove insulator gasket from fuel meter body.
9. Position throttle body on a clean, flat surface.

10. Remove TPS attaching screws, lockwashers, and retainers. Remove TPS sensor from the throttle body, Fig. 174. Discard and replace screws.
11. Remove screw holding TPS actuator lever to end of throttle shaft.
12. Remove IAC assembly and gasket from the throttle body.
NOTE: On 1982 models spot welds on bottom of TBI unit must be drilled out before removing the TPS.

ASSEMBLE

1. Place throttle body assembly on a suitable holding fixture to avoid damage to the throttle valve.
2. Install new gasket and IAC in throttle body. Refer to ``Idle Air Control Assembly, Replace." Do not over tighten to prevent damage to valve.
3. Install TPS actuator lever by aligning flats on lever with flats on end of shaft. Install retaining screw and tighten securely. Use thread locking compound when installing TPS.
4. Install new fuel meter body insulator gasket on throttle body assembly. Ensure gasket is installed correctly when cut out portions match throttle body assembly.
5. Install fuel meter body on insulator gasket. Apply a thread locking compound to threads of fuel meter body attaching screws. Torque attaching screws and lockwashers to 35 in. lbs.
6. Place new gaskets in fuel meter body and install fuel inlet and outlet nuts. Torque nuts to 21 ft. lbs.
7. Install fuel injector.
8. Install fuel pressure regulator dust seal into recess on fuel meter body, Fig. 167.
9. Install new gasket, sealing fuel return passage, on fuel meter cover, Fig. 175.
10. Install new fuel meter cover gasket on fuel meter body.
11. Install fuel meter cover, ensure pressure regulator dust seal and cover gaskets are properly positioned. Apply a thread locking compound to threads on the fuel meter cover attaching screws. Install fuel meter cover attaching screws and lockwashers. Torque to 28 in. lbs. The two shorter screws go next to the fuel injector.
