A/T - 125/125C Delayed Reverse Or Slips In Reverse
TSB 87-42 (July)SUBJECT: THM 125/125C
PROBLEM: Delayed reverse, or slips in reverse
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
Wrong clutch plates. Too much clutch pack clearance requires excessive apply piston travel, causing delayed engagement.
If clearance is too great, the piston may not fully apply the clutches, resulting in slipping, burned clutches and early failure.
SOLUTIONS:
Ideal clutch pack clearance is .010" per friction plate.
For example:
If the clutch pack has four friction plates, the clearance should be .040", or .050" for five friction plates
Here are applications and part numbers for the reverse clutch plates:
80-83 Low and reverse steel plates .077" thick Part # 8631079
84-UP Low and reverse steel plates .086" thick Part # 8652027
80-83 Low and reverse friction plates .080" thick
84-UP Low and reverse friction plates .090" thick
