Vacuum Pump Pivot Pin - Oil Leakage

Subject: VACUUM PUMP PIVOT PIN OIL LEAKAGE - 1983 2000 WITH 2.0L L-4 ENGINE (CODE P)
Some 1983 2000 vehicles assembled prior to October 4, 1982, may exhibit oil leakage from the pivot pin hole of the mechnical vacuum pump.

Processing changes at the source have been implemented to correct this condition and suspect vacuum pumps (part number 7840552) have been purged from WDDGM stock.

Oil leakage from the vacuum pump pivot pin may result in oil accumulation on the engine oil pan rail and can be incorrectly diagnosed as a oil pan or main seal leak.

On vehicles suspected of leaking oil in the areas noted above and assembled prior to October 4, 1982, it is recommended that the vacuum pump be inspected for leakage prior to initiating any other corrective action.
