Water Pump: Service and Repair

With Automatic Transmission:




With Manual Transmission:






Tools Required: BT-7515 or J-25033-B Pulley Installer and J-25034-5 or J-29785-A Pulley Remover

Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative cable at the battery.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Drive belt(s).
4. Water pump attaching bolts.
5. Water pump from cover assembly.


Install or Connect

Note: If installing a new water pump, use the pulley from the old unit. Use tool BT-7515, or J-25034 and J-25033.

Important: Be sure the sealing surfaces are clean, then apply a 3 mm (1/8") bead of sealant Part. No. 1052289, or equivalent, on the water pump sealing surface. Water pump bolts must also be coated with RTV sealer to avoid coolant leaks.

1. While the sealer is still wet, install the pump. Tighten the bolts to 27 Nm (20 lbs. ft.).
2. Drive belt(s) and adjust drive belts.
3. Fill the cooling system as previously described.
4. Connect the battery, then start the engine.
5. Inspect for coolant leaks.
