A/T - Noisy Converter Or Pump

TSB 85-7

SUBJECT: 1250

COMPLAINT:
Noisy converter or pump, even after changing both the pump and converter.

CAUSE:
In a number of instances, the sprocket bearings may be worn, damaged, or even missing from the factory. The result is a noise that is most often mistaken for a converter or pump noise.

CORRECTION:

The correction is to inspect both of the sprocket bearings any time a noise is present. These bearings will make a noise when the vehicle is moving, or in park or neutral when the sprockets are turning. Inspect the bearings and the sprocket races for pitting or damage.
