Engine - Idle Fluctuation and Dieseling

1984 6000 STE (ENGINE CODE Z)
A condition of idle degradation (RPM fluctuation) may occur on some 1984 6000 STE models when operating these vehicles under any of the following closed throttle positions:
1. Braking to a stop.
2. Idle (park or in gear).
3. Turning steering wheel.
4. Engaging the air conditioner.
5. Switching the blower motor fan to the third blower position.
Also, engine dieseling may result after turning off the ignition.
To repair the conditions, replace throttle kicker relay. Reset idle speed control per procedure in Section 6EI of the Pontiac Service Manual for the vehicle affected.
The kicker relay is located on the right hand side of the radiator support.
