Roof rack - Installation Difficulties

Number 84-10-17 Date 5/84

Subject: INSTALLATION DIFFICULTIES WITH
6000 ROOF RACK (V55) - 1984 6000
We have heard of some Poor fitting roof racks causing installation difficulties on the 1984 6000.

The condition may be due to the cross rails being 6 mm (1/4") too long. This requires supports to be forced inboard on installation and prevents fore and aft adjustment

This condition has been corrected by the supplier. However, those cars already produced may require the following revisions of the crow rails to permit free movement:

1. Remove 6 mm (1/4") from one end of each cross rail.

2. Drill a new 6 mm (1/4") hole 9 mm (3/8") from the revised end to align with the hole in the slider.

3. Remove all sharp edges with a file and assemble the rack per the instructions in the package.

When installing the threaded plate in the slider, inspect the plate for burrs on the corners. Assemble the plate in the slider so the large burr will follow the groove in the side rail and not bite into the metal when tightened. DO NOT grind the burr off as the protective coating will be broken and the plate will rust.

There have also been instances of screws missing from the packages. The following is a list of the screws and nuts used in the roof luggage carrier package.
