Seats - Lint Build Up

Number 84-10-18 Date 6/84
Subject: LINT BUILDUP ON 6000 MODEL CAR SEATS
1984 6000 models with Rocaille seat trim may develop lint buildup on the seats which is sometimes difficult to remove. The source of this lint is fibers from the acoustic insulation which is glued to the right side I/P hush panel. The ECM harness rubs against this insulation and strips away fibers. Air from the heater duct then distributes the fibers throughout the vehicle.

This condition can be corrected after removal of the hush panel using one of the following procedures:

1. Remove the insulation material from the hush panel, being certain to remove ALL of the loose fibers. Obtain a 30" x 18" x 1/2" thick piece of polyurethane foam, and trim it to match the shape of the hush panel. Glue this material to the panel. Replace panel.

OR

2. Place duct tape over worn or rubbed areas of the insulation. Be sure to cover all areas where shedding of material has occurred. Replace hush panel.

Remove lint from seats with a lint brush, obtainable at most department stores.

Additional lint buildup may occur within a few days after the correction due to some lint accumulation within the A/C ducts.
