Speedometer - Intermittent Operation

Number 84-8-6 Date 3/84

Subject: INTERMITTENT SPEEDOMETER OPERATION - 1984 STE

The speedometer on the 1984 6000 STE may go to zero intermittently, especially when going over bumps or with engine "rocking" during an acceleration. This is caused by the wiring harness to the VSS (PM generator on transaxle) being misrouted around the brake pipes or the wiring to the VSS being damaged.

To correct this condition, remove the connector from the VSS (raise car to do this). Inspect the harness connector terminals for damage and repair if necessary. Also, inspect the VSS wiring insulation for damage, repairing where required. Then reroute the connector and harness to relieve any tension..

This condition has been corrected in production, after the first two month's build.
