Quarter Window - Replacement Procedure Changes

Subject: QUARTER WINDOW REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE CHANGES - SUNBIRD CONVERTIBLE

Due to changes in the "J-67" style quarter window assembly, the following procedures should be used in place of the steps listed in the 1984 Fisher Body Service Manual.

Guide Block

Removal

CAUTION: Eye protection should be worn when performing the following steps in order to minimize the chance of personal injury.

NOTICE: Do not use a center punch to drive mandrel out of the rivet as this will damage the regulator back plate tracks..

Step 3 Remove rivets (item 10, Figure 1) by using a cold chisel and hammer. Shear off rivets from
the side opposite the rivet head. Drill out remainder of rivet using a 6.8 mm (17/64") drill bit.
Installation

Step 3 Using a rivet gun and 1/4" diameter x 1/2" long rivets, install regulator attaching bracket
to guide assembly.

Step 4 Install nut on to bolt holding guide block to glass assembly; torque to 4 N-m (36 in.lbs.).

Removal

Step 2 Remove rivets (Item 3, Figure 1) using a 4.4 mm (11/64") drill bit and remove rivet
(Item 5, Figure 1) by drilling out rivet using a 6.8 mm (17/64") drill bit.

Installation

Step 1 Install motor to quarter glass assembly using a rivet gun and 5/32" diameter x 5/8" long rivets to replace rivets (Item 3, Figure 1) and a 1/4" diameter x 1/2" long rivet to replace rivet (Item 5, Figure 1).
