A/T - 440T4 Reverse Engagement In Neutral

SUBJECT: THM 440T4

PROBLEM:
After rebuild, transmission may have a reverse engagement while in Park, or Neutral

In the Park position on the selector, this condition may appear as a bind-up, because the parking paw is engaged. In the Neutral position, the vehicle may actually move backwards.

POSSIBLE CAUSE: Wrong upper channel plate gasket

The early style gasket can be used on all models. Do not install the late gasket on the early units This may cause reverse engagements while in Park and Neutral.







The arrows in Figures 1 and 2 point to a rib in the channel plate that changed location in mid-1985
