MODELS LESS BALANCE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
1984
1. Install engine support fixture, tool No. J-28467 or equivalent, and raise engine slightly to relieve tension from cradle mounts, Fig. 10.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold, then remove rear wheels.
4. Disconnect both lower control arms and toe link rods from knuckle.
5. Disconnect parking brake cable from cradle.
6. Remove engine and transmission attaching bolts.
7. Remove cradle attaching bolts and the cradle.
8. Drain engine oil, then remove front engine mount-to-support bracket attaching nuts.
9. Disconnect exhaust pipe from rear transaxle mount.
10. Remove starter and flywheel cover, then the upper alternator bracket.
11. Remove lower alternator and engine support brackets.
12. Remove oil pan retaining bolts and the oil pan.
13. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply RTV sealer as shown in Fig. 11.
b. Install 2 bolts in front cover after all other pan attaching bolts have been torqued to 75 inch lbs. Torque front cover bolts to 90 inch lbs.
c. When installing cradle, first install front cradle attaching bolts and nuts finger tight, then note the following torques: rear cradle bolts, 76 ft. lbs.; front cradle nut, 67 ft. lbs.; engine mount bolts, 42 ft. lbs.; rear mount bolts, 18 ft. lbs.; front mount bolts, 36 ft. lbs.; lower control arm-to-knuckle bolts, 33 ft. lbs.; lower control arm-to-cradle bolts, 69 ft. lbs.; tow rod-to-knuckle bolts, 35 ft. lbs.; exhaust pipe-to-manifold bolts, 25 ft. lbs.
