Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

Fig. 3 Intake manifold installation:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove air cleaner and heat stove pipe.
3. Disconnect PCV valve and hose, fuel lines and necessary vacuum hoses, noting position for installation.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors and throttle linkage from TBI unit.
5. Disconnect transaxle kickdown and cruise control linkages, as equipped.
6. Remove throttle linkage and bellcrank from manifold and position aside.
7. Disconnect heater hose and generator brace from manifold, and remove ignition coil.
8. Remove manifold bolts and manifold.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Torque manifold bolts to specifications as shown in Fig. 3. On 1987---88 models, torque all attaching bolts to 25 ft. lbs.
