Fig. 5 Engine front cover installation:
1. Remove drive belts, then the right rear inner splash shield.
2. Remove pulley attaching bolt, then the pulley and hub from shaft.
3. On 1984 models, remove oil pan-to-front cover attaching screws and the front cover.
4. On 1985-88 models, support engine using fixture No. J-28467, then remove engine mount and bracket as an assembly. Remove front cover attaching screws and the front cover.
5. Clean cylinder block and front cover sealing surfaces, then position oil pan front seal on front cover.
6. Apply a 3/8 inch wide by 3/16 inch thick bead of RTV sealer to joint formed at oil pan and front cover.
7. Apply a 1/4 inch wide by 1/8 inch thick bead of RTV sealer on front cover to block mating surface.
8. Install centering tool No. J-23042 in front cover seal, Fig. 5.
9. Install front cover. Install 2 attaching screws finger tight, then install remaining screws and torque all screws to 90 inch lbs.
10. Remove centering tool and install pulley, hub, splash shield and drive belts.
