Fig. 4 Steering gear replacement:





1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove both front crossmember braces.
3. Remove flex coupling pinch bolt from shaft.
4. Remove outer tie rod cotter pins and nuts on both sides, and disconnect tie rods from steering knuckles.
5. Remove 4 steering gear attaching bolts and the steering gear, Fig. 4.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following torques: flex coupling bolt, 46 ft. lbs.; steering gear bolts, 21 ft. lbs.; tie rod nuts, 29 ft. lbs., plus up to an additional 1/6 turn to align cotter pin hole; front crossmember brace bolts, 20 ft. lbs.
