Doors - Misaligned, Production Change

Number 85-2-14 Date 8/85
Subject: MISALIGNED DOORS

1984-85 FIERO

HINGE PIN:

Some 1984-85 Fieros may exhibit a poorly aligned (sagging) right and/or left door.

This condition may be related to assembly plant processing requiring that the upper door hinge pin be driven down to gain enough driving clearance for the door outer skin upper front attachment.. After the attachment was made, the hinge pin was then driven back into its original position. Driving the pin down caused the retaining clip tabs to break which can produce a loose pin and misaligned door.

Production was corrected with the use of a new shorter hinge pin assembly which eliminates the need to drive the pin down.

This condition can be repaired by installing a new service pin of either the new or old design. Both pins are available through GMWDD. Door hinge pins are not reusable, therefore anytime a pin is removed, a new pin must be installed. Retaining clips are not available as a service art.
