Engine Cooling Fan, A/C Compressor - Erratic Operation

Number 84-8-25 Date 2/85

Subject: 1984 FIERO ENGINE WIRING - AIR CONDITIONING AND ENGINE COOLING FAN

AIR CONDITIONER AND ENGINE COOLING FAN:

A condition in some 1984 Fiero engine electrical wiring may allow the engine cooling fan and air conditioning compressor to function erratically:

^ Air conditioning compressor may cycle too frequently due to engine motion or vehicle movement over bumpy roads

^ Engine cooling fan may cycle too frequently under the same conditions.

NOTICE: The cooling fan runs continually below 30 MPH with the air conditioner on. The compressor automatically cycles off and on. Be certain to use Section 6B for cooling diagnosis and Section 1B for air conditioning diagnosis if a customer comment does not fit the above pattern..

The above conditions may be caused by wires that may be out of their protective plastic shield and contact the engine water pump pulley.

The conditions can be corrected by repairing these wires and rerouting them into their plastic shield. Be certain that all six fingers of the shield are locked into place.
