REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Intake manifold.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
3. Exhaust pipe.
4. Drain engine block.
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Loosen rocker arms until able to remove push rod.
7. Serpentine belt and tensioner.
8. A.I.R. bracket.
9. Alternator bracket.
10. Head bolts and cylinder head.
NOTE: The gasket surfaces on both the head and cylinder case deck must be clean of any foreign matter and free of nicks of heavy scratches. Cylinder bolt threads in the case and threads on the cylinder head bolts must be clean. Dirt will affect bolt torque.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Place the gasket in position, over the dowel pins, with the note "This Side Up" showing.
2. Cylinder head.
3. Coat cylinder head bolt threads with sealer, GM P/N 1052080 or equivalent, and install bolts.
4. Torque bolts in sequence to 95 Nm (70 ft lbs).
5. Push rods and loosely retain with rocker arms. Make sure lower ends of push rods are in lifter seats.
6. Intake manifold.
7. Raise and support vehicle, install exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold flange.
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Adjust valve lash.
10. A.I.R. bracket.
11. Tensioner and alternator bracket.
12. Continue intake manifold build up.
