Valve Cover: Service and Repair



ROCKER COVER






Removal (Left)

1. Disconnect battery.
2. Disconnect air management hose.
3. Disconnect hoses, wires and pipe bracket.
4. Remove rocker cover bolts.
5. Disconnect fuel line at carburetor.
6. Remove cover. If cover adheres to cylinder head, shear off by bumping end of rocker arm cover with palm of hand or rubber mallet. If cover still will not come loose, CAREFULLY pry until loose. DO NOT DISTORT SEALING FLANGE.






Installation (Left)

1. Clean sealing surface on cylinder head, intake manifold and rocker cover. Make sure sealing flange or rocker cover is not bent.
2. Place a 3mm diameter (1/8") dot of RTV sealant, #1052366 or equivalent, at the intake manifold and cylinder head splitline.
3. Install rocker cover gasket using care to line up the bolt holes in the gasket to the holes in the manifold and cylinder head.
4. Install the bolts and torque to 90 in. lbs.
5. Connect fuel line at carburetor.
6. Connect wires and hoses.
7. Connect battery.






Removal (Right)

1. Disconnect battery.
2. Remove air cleaner.
3. Remove air management and coil bracket.
4. Disconnect hose to air management, wires, vacuum hoses and move aside.
5. Disconnect carburetor controls and remove from bracket.
6. Remove cover retaining bolts and remove cover. If cover adheres to cylinder head, shear off by bumping end of rocker cover with palm of hand or rubber mallet. If cover still does not come loose, CAREFULLY pry until loose. DO NOT DISTORT SEALING FLANGE.






Installation (Right)

1. Clean sealing surface on cylinder head, intake manifold, and rocker cover.
2. Place a 3mm diameter (1/8") dot of RTV sealant, #1052366 or equivalent, at the intake manifold and cylinder head splitline.
3. Install rocker cover gasket using care to line up the bolt holes in the gasket to the bolt holes in the manifold and cylinder head.
4. Install the bolts and torque to 90 in. lbs.
5. Connect carburetor controls.
6. Connect wires and hoses.
7. Install air management and coil bracket.
8. Install air cleaner.
9. Connect battery.
