Beginning July 15, 1983 (Julian date 169) all 700-R4 transmissions were produced using a new oil pump cover (Figure 1) and a new pump to case gasket (Figure 2), that prevents transmission oil from exhausting out the breather during harsh deceleration or during sharp turns..
When servicing any 1983 or 1984 THM 700-R4 transmissions for transmission oil pump cover and pump to case gasket, use the service packages listed below:

These service packages contain both a new oil pump cover and a new pump to case gasket.
NOTICE: The new pump to case gasket cannot be used with the past oil pump cover. The past pump to case gasket can be used with the new oil pump cover, but oil will continue to exhaust out the breather.
