Timing Chain: Service and Repair
Fig. 33 Valve timing marks:
1. Remove front cover as outlined previously. On 6 cylinder engines, loosen rocker arm pivot bolts evenly so that some lash is present between rocker arms and valves.
2. Remove oil slinger, cam gear, crank gear and timing chain.
3. Remove fuel pump eccentric from crankshaft.
4. Install key in crankshaft, if removed.
5. Install fuel pump eccentric, if removed.
6. Install cam gear, crank gear and timing chain with timing marks aligned, Fig. 33. With the timing marks aligned in Fig. 33, No. 6 cylinder is in the firing position. To place No. 1 cylinder in the firing position, rotate crankshaft one complete revolution. This will bring the camshaft gear mark to top and No. 1 cylinder will be in the firing position.
7. Install oil slinger.
8. Install front cover.
