Injection nozzle body leaks may be corrected by loosening the inlet fitting and re-torquing to 45 ft. lbs. on DED type injection nozzles, and 19 ft. lbs. on CAV type injection nozzles, Fig. 22. In the event this does not correct the leak, remove the inlet fitting. Using a piece of crocus cloth, press and rotate the end of the inlet fitting against the crocus cloth back and forth about six times. After polishing has been performed, flush inlet fitting using diesel fuel and install fitting onto pump.
Fig. 17 Injection nozzle installation:
1. Remove fuel lines, using a back-up wrench on upper injection nozzle hex.
2. Remove nozzle by applying torque to largest nozzle hex, Fig. 17.
3. Cap nozzle and lines to prevent entry of dirt. Also remove copper gasket from cylinder head if gasket did not remain with nozzle.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Torque nozzle to 25 ft. lbs. When tightening nozzle, torque must be applied to largest nozzle hex. Torque fuel line to 25 ft. lbs. using a back-up wrench on upper injection nozzle hex.
