Engine - Corrected Oil Pan Bolt Torques

Number 85-SM-23A Date 8/85
Subject: OIL PAN BOLT TORQUE

1985 GRAND AM, GRAND PRIX, AND BONNEVILLE EQUIPPED WITH EITHER 3.0L V-6 (VIN CODE L) OR 3.8L (VIN CODES A, 3 & 9) ENGINE
The oil pan bolt torque specifications for the above engines on pages 6A1-11 (Grand Prix, Bonneville) and 6A5A-14 (Grand Am) for the 1985 Service Manuals are in error. They should be 10 N-m (88 in.lbs.). If these bolts are over torqued it can cause damage to the dimples in the oil pan and over stretch the gasket causing it to split.
