Intermediate Band Anchor Pin & Servo Piston
NOTE: Production transmissions may be built with either none or two seal rings on band apply pin. However, all service and apply pins will have two oil seal rings.1. Inspect anchor pin for damage, then install it with stem end first making sure stem locates in hole of intermediate band lug, see image.
2. Inspect intermediate servo pin for damage and proper fit into case bore.
3. Inspect inner and outer piston seal rings for damage and free fit in grooves. Do not remove seals unless replacement is required.
4. Inspect spring for damage or tilt.
5. Inspect intermediate servo cover and piston assembly for correct combination and usage. Refer to "Intermediate Servo Cover & Piston Usage Chart" in see image.
6. Check for correct intermediate band apply piston as outlined under "Transmission Disassembly." If new apply pin or replacement of piston is required, proceed as outlined below.
a. Using tool J-22269-O1, compress servo piston spring, then using a screwdriver, remove snap ring.
b. Remove tool, then separate and apply pin, spring and washer (servo spring retainer on later models) from intermediate servo.
c. Install washer or spring retainer on snap ring end of apply pin, then install spring, see image.
d. Install band apply pin with spring end first Through intermediate servo pistons, then using tool J-22269-O1, compress servo piston spring and install snap ring.
7. If removed, install new inner and outer seal rings. Make sure cut ends are assembled in same relationship as cut and make sure rings are seated in moves to prevent damaging rings. Retain with petrolatum.
8. Lubricate with petrolatum and install new seal ring on intermediate servo cover. The seal rings must be well lubricated to avoid damaging or cutting ring.
9. Install case connector, if equipped, as follows:
a. Lubricate new O-ring with petrolatum, then install onto case connector.
b. Connector electrical lead to solenoid connector, then install into case with locator tabs positioned in notch on side of case, see image.
