Parking Brake System: Adjustments

1984---86
1. Jack up both rear wheels with parking brake fully released.
2. Apply suitable lubricant to groove in equalizer nut.
3. Remove slack from cable by tightening equalizer nut while preventing brake cable stud from turning. After tightening nut, ensure caliper levers are against stops on caliper housing. If levers are not against stops, loosen cable until they return.
4. Activate parking brake several times to check adjustment. The parking brake lever should move 5---8 notches when a force is applied perpendicularly at a midway point on handle grip.
5. Lower rear wheels and ensure levers are on caliper stops. If necessary, back off parking brake adjuster to keep levers on stops.
