Alternator & Distributor Coil - Cooling Fan Runs Reverse

Number 85-8-16 Date 9/85
Subject: ALTERNATOR AND DISTRIBUTQR COIL COOLING FAN RUNS BACKWARD

1985 FIERO WITH V6 ENGINE
CONDITION:

Insufficient cool air is emitted from the alternator and ignition coil auxiliary cooling fan ducts.

CAUSE:

The cooling fan motor connector is wired backward.

CORRECTION:

(1) Locate the white two wire connector at the right hand side of the rear compartment. (The insulation must be pulled away from the trunk wall at the right side to access this connector.)

(2) A black wire with a red stripe should be located in cavity "A" of the connector.

(A) If it is not, install it in cavity "A", then install the remaining black wire in cavity "B" of the connector.

(B) Test wire installation by performing push, pull test. After pushing and pulling on each individual wire, the wire should not separate from the connector.

(3) With ignition on and in A/C mode (engine not running) check blower performance for increased output.

VIN's after FP267813 built after August 1, 1985 are not affected by this condition.
