On 1982-86 Sunbird models, and 1985-88 Grand Am models, the front suspension struts (original equipment) may be serviced by installing a cartridge following the procedure at the end of section 3C of the Chassis Service Manual.

Beginning with 1987 model year, the front suspension struts on Grand Am and Sunbird models can no longer be serviced by installing a cartridge. If the strut requires service, the entire strut assembly must be replaced.
