Dear Pontiac Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to Motor Vehicle Safety exists in some 1985 Pontiac Parisienne models equipped with a 4.3L V-6 engine. The fuel feed and fuel return pipe assemblies incorporate an integral hose which may contact the pointed end of the radiator shroud attaching screw resulting in a possible fuel leak. In addition, the positive battery cable may contact the upper control arm or exhaust manifold shield which could eventually penetrate the insulation and ground the cable. Either of these conditions could result in an underhood fire. Such a fire could, in time, spread to the passenger compartment and cause burn injuries to occupants remaining in the vehicle.
To prevent the possibility of these conditions occurring on your vehicle, please contact your Pontiac Dealer on or after the date shown below to arrange a service date. Your dealer will install a positive battery cable service kit and reposition front fuel feed and return pipes. This service will be completed at no charge to you.
Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your Pontiac Dealer. It is estimated that parts will be available on December 13, 1985. The labor time necessary to install positive battery cable service kit and reposition the fuel lines is approximately 40 minutes. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to process your vehicle.
Your Pontiac Dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to ensure your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. However, if you take your vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date, and they do not remedy this condition on that date or within five days, we recommend you contact the nearest Pontiac Zone office, either in person or by, telephone. The Zone office will assist you and the dealer in getting your vehicle corrected. The locations and telephone numbers of the Zone office are listed in your Owner's Manual.
After contacting your dealer and the Zone office, if you are still not satisfied that we have done our best to remedy this condition without charge within a reasonable time, you may wish to write the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call 800-424-9393 (Washington, D.C. residents use 426-0123).
